Welcome to the home of “Two Miles of Hatred” a multimedia series of stories chronicling the history of the Battle of the Boulevard, a men’s college basketball rivalry between two Division I private schools, Belmont University and Lipscomb University, that sit just two miles apart on the same street in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Bruins and the Bisons have faced off 140 times over the past 64 years as members of both the NCAA and NAIA, in regular season and postseason matchups, and with everything from a NCAA Tournament bid to city bragging rights on the line.

The rivalry is considered the fiercest of its kind among mid-major college basketball programs. It is analogous to the infamous Duke-North Carolina rivalry for smaller universities and sports programs, a rivalry between local schools that has battled over conference titles, recruiting targets, local media attention, and even their respective religious affiliations – Southern Baptist for Belmont and Church of Christ for Lipscomb.

Explore the website as the history of the rivalry is broken into eight chapters featuring behind-the-scenes stories, personal anecdotes, archival photos, video and audio clips, and statistical graphics covering the best moments from the Battle of the Boulevard.
